What is Origin
From Wikipedia:
Origin is a proprietary computer program for interactive scientific graphing and data analysis. It has inspired several platform-independent open-source clones like SciDAVis. Graphing support in Origin includes various 2D/3D plot types. Data analyses in Origin include statistics, signal processing, curve fitting and peak analysis. Origin's curve fitting is performed by a nonlinear least squares fitter which is based on the Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm. Origin imports data files in various formats such as ASCII text, Excel, NI TDM, DIADem, NetCDF, SPC, etc. It also exports the graph to various image file formats such as JPEG, GIF, EPS, TIFF, etc. There is also a built-in query tool for accessing database data via ADO.
Supported Operating Systems
Origin is only available for 64-bit Windows. Mac and Linux users will need to install Windows first.
VPN requirement
Connection to campus VPN is required to license Origin.
How to Install (faculty/staff only - students see below)
Faculty and staff can email support@eng.ua.edu and specify your computer name and we can install it remotely if you are on campus.
If you wish to install it yourself, here are download links:
- Zipped Solidworks install files: via this link to UA BOX Warning-this is a very large file (~13gb)
- Licensing information: via this link to UA BOX
Notes:
- You will need to run the EXE to unzip the installer and you will need to run the installer as an admin or uncheck the Electrical option to avoid the SQL Express error.
- You will need to connect to the campus VPN in order to use the faculty/staff license.
License key for students
The license key for student use is available to UA students via
this link to UA BOX
Note: Student licenses are only valid for 1 year
